JJPL will be providing tip sheets as a resource to families and friends who are navigating through the juvenile justice system. These sheets are intended to help summarize topics including what to do when your child is arrested, how the court system works, what to ask of your child’s lawyer, what the sentencing process entails, and what happens when a youth is sent to a Louisiana Youth Prison.

Resource Sheet #1:
Some youth feel isolated and stigmatized in the facilities because they identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning with regards to their sexual orientation. Due to the support role that JJPL plays when talking to youth and families, we have created a Resource List for services across the state. Furthermore, a second version of the list was generated for youth at risk of violence if their orientation were to be known by others. This Discrete Resource List acts as a connection for those individuals who wish to reach out for support without being out about themselves.

Stay tuned for the posting of additional sheets.
